Life is like a game of chess. You have to make choices and apply intelligent strategies to advance or retreat. Circumstances change with every move every day. If you want to succeed on this sea of ever flowing waters, carry on to the end; administer your efforts to reach your dreams and goals. Even when things look different and difficult at times, do whatever it takes to be extraordinary; to be a winner.
On the basketball court is exactly the same. Every second of the game is different, and as a player you always need to be prepared for the next move. Any single mistake or distraction might turn the ball over jeopardizing the final score. To be ready means to be in optimal spiritual, mental and physical condition to endure every challenge during the whole game. And the number one challenge you will have to beat is yourself.
How many times have you felt the desire to throw in the towel in the middle of the fight? When the pain is deep and the esteem is low; when everything and everybody around you seems to be against you and there is nowhere to go? When you are down by twenty with five minutes on the clock, wouldn’t you like to quit and walk home? Well my friend, we all experience the same emotions sometimes, but the difference between the ordinary player and the extraordinary warrior is to never give up!
To never give up is an act of your will. It becomes a habit of successful people no matter what circumstances they are going through. “There’s no way you’ll be able to play Game 5” Michael Jordan was told by the Chicago Bulls medical personnel after they diagnosed him with a stomach virus a day before game 5 of the 1996-1997 NBA Finals. Jordan rested in bed that night and missed practices with the team in the morning and just a couple of hours before game time that day, he dragged himself to the Delta Center, downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.
After visualizing himself running, passing, shooting, dribbling and winning, he told Coach Phil Jackson: “I can play”. And after an amazing 38 -point performance during an unbelievable game, the Bulls win the game 90-87, and eventually the NBA precious crown.
He had the will to play because he wanted to. The meaning of the word will from its Old English origin is “to wish, desire or want”. Clear enough if you really want, you really can! Exercise your will. When you feel you can’t achieve your goals, it is just that you have not wanted them that bad.
Don’t give up, you still have time
to reach up and start anew,
Accept your shadows,
Bury your fears,
Free your burdens,
Don’t give up, that’s what life is
Continue the journey,
Follow your dreams,
Move the rubble,
And uncover the sky.
Don’t give up, please don’t give way,
Even if the cold burns,
Even if fear bites,
Even if the sun sets,
And the wind goes silent,
There is still fire in your soul
There is still life in your dreams.
Because life is yours and yours is the desire
Because you have loved it and because I love you
Because wine exists and love is true.
Because there are no wounds that time doesn’t cure.
To open the doors,
Take away the locks,
Abandon the walls that have protected you,
To live life and accept the challenge
Get back laughter,
Practice a song,
Lower the guard and extend the hands
Open the wings
And try again,
Celebrate life and take back the skies.
Because every day is a new beginning,
Because this is the hour and the best moment.
Because you are not alone, because I love you.
